[audio]IUMA: FAST
If Fast could be described in one word Hypnofunkadelic would be it. The East-Coast psychedelic revolution is coming down on the asses of the masses with an unclassifiable barrage of sound waves to super-funk the mind, body, and soul. Fast combines their unique hard-edged funked-up sound with the ever popular jam (a live staple) to create a temple of sonic mayhem before your very ears and eyes. Fast has been doing their thing since 1993 like nobody's business...

[image]19 foot Pressure Wind Tunnel - NASA/Langley Research Center (NASA-LaRC)
Guide vanes in the 19 foot Pressure Wind Tunnel at Langley Aeronautical Laboratory, National Advisory committee for Aeronautics, form an ellipse 33 feet high and 47 feet wide. The 23 vanes force the air to turn corners smoothly as it rushes through the giant passages. If vanes were omitted, the air would pile up in dense masses along the outside curves, like water rounding a bend in a fast brook. Turbulent eddies would interfere with the wind tunnel tests, which require a steady flow of fast, sm...

[image]Balance of the West Antarctic Ice Sheet - Image courtesy
For several decades, measurements of the West Antarctic Ice Sheet showed it to be retreating rapidly. But new data derived from satellite-borne radar sensors show the ice sheet to be growing. Changing Antarctic ice sheets remains an area of high scientific interest, particularly in light of recent global warming concerns. These new findings are significant because scientists estimate that sea level would rise 5–6 meters (16–20 feet) if the ice sheet collapsed into the sea...

[image]Shark scales - NASA/Langley Research Center (NASA-LaRC)
Close examination of the skin of a fast-swimming shark appears to confirm Langley's aerodynamically efficient Riblet concept. This view magnified 30 times, reveals that projections on the shark skin -dermal denticles- line up to form grooves similar to those that have reduced drag in wind tunnels. L83-9167: Mother Nature's riblet, this shark's dermal denticle has been magnified 3,000 times. Photograph published in Winds of Change, 75th Anniversary NASA publication (page 123), by James Schultz.

[image]Illustration of Shock Wave Around Millisecond Pulsar
In binary star systems such as 47 Tuc W, which contains a normal star and an extremely rapidly rotating neutron star called a millisecond pulsar (MSP), matter is pulled from the normal star by the gravitational tug of the more massive neutron star. In contrast to X-ray binary systems, this matter (yellow streamer in illustration) does not form a hot disk around the neutron star. Instead, it is pushed back by the pressure of a wind of fast-moving particles (blue) produced by the pulsar...

[image]Chandra X-ray Image of the Mouse, Detail - NASA/CXC/SAO/B.Gaensler et al.
Astronomers have used data from Chandra to make the first detailed study of the behavior of high-energy particles around a fast moving pulsar. The results show a shock wave created as a pulsar plows supersonically through interstellar space. These results will provide insight into theories for the production of powerful winds of matter and antimatter by pulsars. Scale:

"Two 4,000-horsepower slip-ring induction motors with 24 steps of speed between 75 and 300 r.p.m. were ...installed. In order to obtain the range of speed one pole change was provided and the other variations are obta...

[audio]IUMA: fast eddie
Fast Eddie is music for the adventurous listener. The music is a blend of many dressings to make a weird, tasteful sound. Melodic, bombastic, aggressive, and atmospheric are characteristics of Fast Eddie's sound. Founded in late 2001, Fast Eddie brings their circus like atmosphere to their live shows and continues to write and focus on expanding and revealing its sound to new ears. Bassist Joe Sacco and drummer Greg Atria hold down the foundation as guitarist Danny Wahlberg and vocalist/songwrit...
